On Tuesday 25th August we purchased our tickets for the flight to Machu Picchu. The flight takes us from Santiago in the early morning to Lima in Peru. After nearly 2 hours stop over we then travel on to Cusco. From here we will visit Machu Picchu where the ruins of the Inca's are hidden high in the mountains.
Machu Picchu, Machu Pikchu, "Old Peak", is a Pre Columian site located 2,430 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu is one of the most familiar symbols of the Inca Empire.
We have 4 days to visit this area before flying back to Santiago via Cuzco and Lima.
